Technology by Design was started in 1998 by Brian and Deanna Ginkens. At that time, there was only one other technology integrator in Central Iowa market. Brian and Deanna saw the need for a small business that was personal and relationship-based, so they started the company out of their garage. Since 1998 Technology by Design has grown by leaps and bounds but we still strive to be a company that sets the benchmark for that elusive small-business feeling, while also providing world-class products and services.

You're probably tired of having components strung out through every room of your home. Maybe you'd just like to be able to have the audio from the living room TV shared throughout the house.
Imagine having the true Cinema experience right in your home. Schedule an appointment with one of our Design Consultants and see how we can use your Family Room, Rec Room, or Dedicated Theater to design a system for you that will keep you home with you family and friends instead of waiting in line at the theater on the weekends.
For an easy-to-use, effective way to keep your home dust and allergen-free, look to the Vacuflo Central Vacuum Installation System from H-P Products. Vacuflo's patented Cyclonic Filtration Technology eliminates most all of your vacuumed dirt, dust and allergens from the air. Unlike portable vacuums, Vacuflo does not re-circulate dirt, dust and allergens.

Tried to use them as a new customer to help set up am audio system. Made an appointment, they called and pushed it back a day which is no big deal. They then called back the next day and canceled that appointment only to say that the next possible day would be two weeks away and that wasn't guaranteed. Would not recommend you even try to do business with this company if they can't keep to their appointments and promises.

Had a doorbell camera installed by a company but it didn't work well and they said the transformer probably wasn't big enough. I tried a couple different things but could not find the transformer and a contractor suggested I call Technology by Design. Ryan came out today and did a great job. He had to look for the transformer (an electrician friend had come over and could not find it), located where it was hidden, found he did not have the right size, got another one, got it installed, and it is working fine now. He could not have been more polite, pleasant, and cleaned up after he was done. It was a great experience.

They are good people and they do know their stuff however their warranty comes at a high price. Systems costs 10's of thousands of dollars and there is always something needing attention. Instead of a good warranty and a long term maintenance program I got stuck with bill after bill after bill. I have faulty equipment getting covered by savant but tbd charges me hundreds to come replace the part.
Then something breaks as their fixing that and I'm paying for another service call. I'm happy with how everything got set up but what I'm not happy about is. 1. How long it took (over a year) 2. The warranty or lack there of. 3. The cost of the system 4. The cost of continuous service calls. 5. Training of the system. i would suggest writing the warranty and service contract before agreeing to buy equipment.

Terrible company and terrible support! Had a whole home network install with them and was sold the sky and the moon at the time of purchase. I was told their prices are high but that is because of their excellent warranty and that they would always stand by their products and workmanship. They Lied! The install date was set three months out from the date of purchase because they were "busy" (that should have been my first warning). However, we set the install date and the installers came out and began work.
But the installers damaged the drywall and ceilings in a couple spots and didn't fix until I pointed the damage out and even then they just caulked the holes rather than finishing it correctly. I had to pay to have the drywall patched properly. Also all the network boxes and face plates are crooked since the installers cut the holes lopsided. To top it all off, when I started having issues a couple months after the install with a few of the network jacks because of their terrible install, they sent a couple guys out a month after my initial call.
The guys looked around and tested the cable for about an hour and "were not able to reproduce the problem" and left. Then I got a bill for a trip charge and service call - so much for that warranty! Worst company I have dealt with in a long time and gives home automation and technology companies a bad name! Stay away unless you appreciate poor workmanship, poor service, and astronomically high prices! Don't get sucked in by the newer, high reviews - I'm speculating the new reviewers are just friends of the owner or employees doing them a favor.

I had used technology By Design for security for many years. I recently moved to a new home, I made a rash decision and used another company for the new home. I have regretted it ever since. Technology By Design had always performed quickly and professionally with our security system. I wish I had stayed loyal to a company that did what they said they would do, and did it well. Tim Osborne, the salesman I deal with at Technology By Design does a superior job and it's true to his word!

Technology By Design handles all of my surveillance and security for my business; and their quality products and customer service definitely speak for themselves. I'm a very needy customer and my sales guy bends over backwards for me, which truly shows my importance as a customer to them. I would recommend their services to everyone.

Our experience with Technology by Design was a very good one, starting with our appointment at their showroom (which is nice) all the way to the final install. Our sales rep was knowledgeable and answered our questions, and the installation team was clean an friendly. Its been a long time since we used the multi room audio system in our home because it just wasn't convenient to turn on, and over time we just stopped using it.
Now that we can control our music and radio station selections from our phones and iPads it gets used every day. Couldn't be more happy with our audio system now, and I'm glad we chose Technology by Design.

My Wife and I had a Terrific experience with Technology By Design. They installed our Security, Theater Room and Savant System and we couldn't be happier. Our Theater Room sounds and looks better than the theaters we used to go to and we actually prefer to watch them at home now. We also have music throughout the home and we can control the whole thing from our iPad or from our phones.
The installers were very friendly and knowledgeable, they cleaned up after themselves every step of the way and hauled away all of the boxes. They showed us how to run our system and our salesman came out to review our whole system with us. I would use them again and I refer them every chance I get!
