NFPA 72 (The National Fire Alarm Code) states that all properties with fire alarm systems shall have in place a current testing and maintenance contract assuring that the system is tested according to the schedule appropriate for the system, and that the system is maintained and serviced promptly when faults occur.
NFPA 25 states that hydrants shall be tested annually to ensure proper functioning. Hydrants shall be opened fully and water flowed until all foreign material has been cleared. After flowing, dry barrel hydrants are to be checked for proper drainage and all stems, caps, plugs and threads are to be checked for proper operation.
