Christopher Dayan Preferred Security - West Orange Area

The first time that I used Chris was 15 years ago when I bought a house and was given no keys for the house at the closing. Chris had to rekey and put new locks on all types of doors throughout the entire house! My children were young and he suggested a keyless entry so that I wouldn't have to worry about the kids losing or forgetting the house keys.

I have used Chris over the years for minor fixes and most recently during Covid when the doors/locks were getting much more use than usual because I had guests staying with me for an extended period. This review took me a while to write but I cannot thank Chris enough for all of his help over the years!

Chris is a prince of a guy. We had a safe with a digital lock that stopped working. He spent considerable time on the phone with me trying to troubleshoot, even called the manufacturer and called me back right away. Everyone was snowed in by a storm, but the following day he dug out and came over first thing. He is a pro, fascinating watching him work and all the specialty tools he used. I cannot recommend him highly enough. What a great solution to a lousy problem.

Christopher was fast, professional and knowledgeable. He fixed the deadbolt knob on my front door very quickly and showed me the reason why it broke in the first place and took measures to make sure it wouldn't be a problem again. I was surprised at how efficiently he worked and found his pricing very reasonable. If I have any other door problems to fix, Christopher will be the one I call.

I have known Chris for many years and as always when I needed someone to change my front doe lock I immediately thought of him. Chris answered my call promptly and was able to see me that same afternoon. Chris gave great options for the new lock and within the week the job was done. I own a small business and needed to have my exterior locks changed after terminating an employee. It was over the Christmas holidays. He was able to come by the same day and re-key them immediately. While he was working, I asked him to look at a heavy glass door that had begun to stick. He showed me what was happening along the hinge side and gave a price to rehang it.

He also suggested I wait until the weather improved because the door would have to be removed for a time. I forgot and let the project go through the summer, because it wasn't sticking, but as soon as the temperatures started to drop, the problem returned. I called him 10 months after his first visit. He remembered the issue and repeated the same price.

He again offered to come by the same day, showed up at the exact time we agreed to, completed the project in less than 2 hours and cleaned up all metal shavings. I highly recommend him & this company.

Christopher Dayan gave me a quote for a $90-service call to fix my jammed balcony door. On arrival, he told me it's going to cost more to fix my UPVC door. When I asked him to give me an estimate, he told me he doesn't know since he'll have to take it apart and "figure it out". It didn't sound like he had worked with this particular UPVC multi-point strip lock design, so I asked if I could re-consider the project.

He got upset and left, and his remarks were, "I've been doing this for 30 years and I know more than you do". I found this contractor's reaction arrogant and unprofessional when I asked him for a quote. I wasn't going to just write the fellow a blank check for him to "figure out" how to fix my balcony door. Would have gladly paid extra if the fellow had told me with confidence, "I know exactly what the problem is and how to fix the door". I eventually fixed the door myself, but I would not recommend using this contractor.
